Hofbräu
Dunkel
The original type of Bavarian beer "Munich Style"
Our Hofbräu Dunkel was the first beer type brewed at Hofbräuhaus over 400 years ago. Long before wheat beer and pale lager became popular in Bavaria, this bottom-fermented dark beer quenched the thirst of Munich. Today, it is especially popular among fans of maltier beers.

Traditional Beer – Traditional Brewing Method
The mahogany-colored, bottom-fermented beer features an ivory-colored, fine-pored foam with a stable head. Aromas of crusty bread, chocolate, and toffee rise to the nose and are also present in the taste. Its full-bodied, smooth initial flavor is leaner than one might expect from a dark beer with 12.5% original gravity. In the aftertaste, the filtered Hofbräu Dunkel finishes with delicate notes reminiscent of semi-dark chocolate.
Brewed using the decoction process, the Munich malt primarily contributes to its dark color and slightly sweet, roasted malt aroma. It’s the perfect companion for cold roasts, stews and casseroles, soft cheeses, as well as cakes and almond pastries.
