Hofbräu Oktoberfest Beer
Unique like Oktoberfest
The Munich Oktoberfest is the most famous and largest beer festival in the world. Every year, over six million visitors celebrate the unique atmosphere and Munich beer. As early as 1810, at the first Oktoberfest held in honor of the wedding of Prince Ludwig and his Therese, a tavern from what was then the "Royal Hofbräuhaus" was there to cater to the courtly festivities. To this day, Hofbräu Oktoberfest beer – a full-bodied, bottom-fermented specialty beer – with its fine hop aroma, tastes just right with Wiesn roast chicken.

A Highlight of the Beer Year
Our full-bodied Hofbräu Oktoberfest beer (6.3% ABV) presents itself majestically in a Maßkrug with its golden color and white, fine-pored foam. A melange of alpine herbs and exotic fruits caresses the nose. The palate enjoys a variety of flavors from malt, caramel, dried fruits, fig, and honey. The smooth festival beer finishes with a pleasant residual sweetness and a light grapefruit note. This creates a particularly full-bodied specialty beer for our Hofbräu festival tent and fans around the world, which pairs wonderfully with traditional Bavarian cuisine.
As a seasonal specialty, it is available from mid-July to the end of September and is a very special highlight of the beer year. Hofbräu Oktoberfest beer is traditionally served in a 1-liter glass Maßkrug with hearty dishes such as roast chicken, sausages, pork knuckles, snack platters, grilled fish on a stick, or Obazda.
A Royal Wedding – The First Oktoberfest
On October 17, 1810, a royal wedding takes place in Munich. Prince Ludwig of Bavaria marries his bride Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The celebrations, featuring a grand horse race, are held on a meadow at the edge of the city, which is henceforth named "Theresienwiese" in honor of the bride, or simply "Wiesn" in Bavarian. The guests are catered to, among others, by a tent from the "Royal Hofbräuhaus." The festival is so well received that it is decided to make it an annual event.
Since the royal brewers want to offer the court and the public a special festival beer with more alcohol, they present the world-famous Hofbräu Oktoberfest beer (6.3% ABV) in 1812. To this day, only Munich breweries are allowed to brew beer called "Oktoberfest beer."
The Hofbräu festival tent at Oktoberfest is known for its exuberant atmosphere. With a standing area for 1,000 people in front of the music stage, 12 quintals of natural hop decorations, and the life-sized angel Aloisius, it is unique at the Wiesn. This is where the whole world celebrates.
