Strong beer, politics and satire - the traditional Maibock Tapping at the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl is always one of the highlights of the beer year. Hofbräuhaus innkeeper Karl Mittermüller introduced it once in 1910 as an "event for the great intellectuals".

And even today, everyone of rank and file in Munich and Bavaria shows up when the Bavarian Minister of Finance and the brewery director invite to the big Maibock Tapping at the Hofbräuhaus banquet room.

On Wednesday, 04/25/2018 at 6:00 pm, there was the time again: More than 600 guests filled the festively decorated ballroom - one of the most beautiful halls in Munich. Among them Prince Leopold of Bavaria, Jutta Speidel, Senta Auth, Uschi Glas, Lola Paltinger, Regine Sixt, and many more.

After a witty greeting by the Bavarian Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder, the new Bavarian Minister of Finance Albert Füracker tapped the Maibock barrel with about nine strokes. According to host Dr. Möller, the Maibock turned out particularly tastefull this year. After all, the brewery has had experience with this since 1614, as the Hofbräu Maibock is Munich's oldest bock beer.

The Bavarian-Turkish cabaret artist Ugur Bagislayici, better known as "Django Asül", has been responsible for the "Derblecken", the political satire on the present politicians, for 10 years now. His all-round turn in all political directions convinced with subtle wit and open reproach at the highest level of cabaret.

And then the Maibock flowed until the late evening hours. Naturally the Hofbräuhaus kitchen provided for the physical well-being of the guests.

With a successful Maibock Tapping at the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl this year also the Maibocktour through the Hofbräu restaurants, organized by Hofbräu Munich, found its impressive end.

Incidentally, Bavarian television has been broadcasting the Maibock Tapping the same evening with a time delay since 2009.
